How we can really know anything about anything?
There is so much information to parse through, so many conspiracy theories, how do we know that what we believe in is actually true?
This course uses the tomb of Christ as a point of reference to explain how we can know that Jesus both claimed to be God and then proved to a bunch of monotheists that he was God through his death and resurrection.
What will you get out of this course?
Christianity is a historical faith - it's not a philosophy, it's not a myth, and it’s not a moral code given to one man by God through angels.
It is the drama of a Jewish man who claimed to be God, who was murdered by the Romans, who came back to life, who broke out of the tomb he was placed in, and who appeared to many in bodily form. This means that there is a place and time in history where these events took place and that we can point to with evidence.
By knowing that evidence, your belief that Christianity is true will be dramatically strengthened.
Beyond that though, knowing the location of Christ's tomb is really all about getting to know Jerusalem during the time of Christ. So in learning about Christ's tomb, you will learn about the world that Jesus lived in and will therefore come to know Christ more intimately.

"Compelling and convincing, The Tomb of Christ takes students on a journey through the tenuous, turbulent, and transfixing history of Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Concise explanations are supported by clarifying and powerful visuals all pointing toward the church as the location of Jesus's crucifixion and burial."

Why is this is such a big deal?
The debate around the location of Christ's tomb raises a more important question about the nature of faith in general. When we are presented with the amount of evidence that we have for the tomb of Christ being found within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and we say things like "you can’t know for certain," or "you have your faith; I have mine” we are saying that truth itself is unknowable or doesn’t matter.
Michael Ramsden, who is now the president of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, says that the definition most people have of faith today is that it is a persuasion of the mind that falls short of the truth - that’s why you need faith to believe it. He says that people think faith is being able to believe in things that aren’t true. Strong faith, he jokes, is the ability to believe in things you are sure aren’t true.
The true definition of faith however is found in Hebrews 11. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith is not wishful thinking. It’s not believing in things we wish were true. Faith is following the evidence where it leads, recognizing truth wherever it’s found.
This is really important if we want people to believe Christianity is true! If we ourselves are believing in things that we wish were true but aren't and we are unwilling to follow the evidence where it leads, how likely is it that we’ll convince anyone else to change their beliefs?
Evangelical scholar and historian Dr Gary Habermas says that the empty tomb was and still is the greatest evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He says that even a majority of secular scholars believe in the historical resurrection of the historical Jesus because of the evidence of the empty tomb.
But in the Western Protestant world, we haven’t had a place where we can point to and say, “Look! There is the empty tomb!”
As Protestants and children of the Enlightenment, we don’t believe we can know where the tomb is.
When it comes to the tomb of Christ, Orthodox and Catholic Christians from all over the world have pointed to the same place for the last 2,000 years - inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre!
The historical evidence points to this being Christ’s tomb. The archeological evidence points to this being Christ’s tomb. And since 2017, the scientific evidence points to this being Christ’s tomb. Yet most Western Christians are unaware of the evidence.

Nate graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2006 and went on to receive a Masters degree from Sciences Po in Paris, France two years later. He served as a Captain in the Medical Service Corps at Langley Air Force Base and deployed to Afghanistan as a mentor of medical logistics to the Afghan National Army.
After getting out of the Air Force in 2011, he became a Bible teacher for three years where he dove into church history and theology, trying to understand the differences between all the various Christian denominations around the world.
Through his time living abroad, Nate became close friends with Catholic and Orthodox Christians from Greece, Serbia, Egypt, and Armenia who shared with him the importance of the miracle of Holy Fire. Nate experienced it for himself in 2017 and again in 2018 and has spent the last three years researching the history of both the church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Holy Fire ceremony.
Who Is This Course For?
It’s for those who have been burned by the Christian Church - for those who formerly self-identified as Christians but have become disillusioned with Christianity and no longer believe that it’s really true.
It’s for those who persevere in their belief in God and yet feel frustrated with the oftentimes shallow and hip versions of Christianity presented to us in the West. For those who have become numb to rock concerts and self-help messages. For those who long for transcendence and connection to the Divine, Almighty God.
It’s for the intellectually curious - non-Christians and Christians alike - for those of us whose faith is strengthened by researching the physical evidence behind Christianity, and who want to investigate the history of the Church (universal) as well as the history of this specific church built over Christ’s tomb.
It’s for those of us who want to mirror Christ, to become like him, to live a crucified and resurrected life.
